My intentions with this social justice piece was to express the voices that have been shut out, ignored and muffled for so long and are now finally being noticed and heard. The transparent white sheet unveiling the the white female to be a black female represents black voices finally being given the space and respect to be themselves rather than constantly trying to conceal and tame their identity to fit in with the white race. To correlate with the “voice” theme, I included some extremely significant quotes from well known black leaders and influencers as a backdrop to the woman.
